My understanding of package distribution is you have a list of mirrors you can download packages from, that list is static and should a new mirror closer to you with faster speeds pop up, you need to know of it to update your mirror list.Īnd my understanding of torrenting is that those with a file to share, announce it to a tracker and those who want to download it ask the tracker for the list of peers who are offering it, while the client sorts out the fastest peer to download from. Perhaps my understanding of torrent or package distribution is off, but it seems like torrenting would be the superior option to mirrors.
